The National Environment Commission Secretariat (NECS) in partnership with Bhutan Red Cross Society (BRCS), Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN), Clean Bhutan and Thimphu Thromde organized adoption of Chubachu Stream by stakeholders and community located in the vicinity of Chubachhu stream as a pilot project to clean and maintain streams and rivers of Bhutan on the WORLD WATER DAY on 22nd March, 2017. Accordingly BPC adopted a section of stream near Chubachhu Power Substation to clean and maintain on a periodic basis to observe “World Water Day” on 22nd March 2017.
As a follow up to the adoption and cleaning of Chubachu stream, on 18th November 2017 the Environment & GIS Division coordinated a cleaning campaign along the adopted stretch of the stream with about 25 volunteers from BPC Head office. The team carried out a rigorous cleaning and collected about 23 bags of waste majority of which were old rugs and cloths, tyres, baby dippers, plastic and plastic bottles. The collected waste was taken to Memey Lhakha for proper dumping by the team.
