The traditional Salang Tendrel/Mewang Getey ceremony for along with Tashi Ngatsuel/Zhudrey Phunsum Tshogpa for the construction of 500 MVA (4×167 MVA), 400/220kV Indoor GIS at Jigmeling , Dekeling Gewog under Sarpang Dzongkhag was held on September 12, 2015 ( Saturday) coinciding with the auspicious 29th day of 7th month of the Lunar calendar. The ceremony was presided over by the venerable Lam Neten and the Senior monks of Gelephu Dratsang.
The Managing Director, BPC graced the occasion. The Management team from the Head Office, the Regional and the Divisional Heads and Staff of the Project Office from BPC; representatives from consultants of the Project: and the key representatives from the Contractor attended the ceremony. On the same day in the afternoon, the kick-off meeting for the Project was also held in the conference hall of the control room at Jigmeling substation to discuss and finalize the various aspects of the Project Implementation
This project is planned to pool the generations from the Hydro Electric Projects in central and western Bhutan (Viz. MHPA, PHPA-II, NIKACHHU, CHAMKARCHHU, KHOLONG CHHU) to cater to upcoming Jigmeling Industrial loads and export the surplus power to India via Alipurdar, West Bengal.
The the technical services for the Project is being provided through WAPCOS/CEA under a separate contract signed on 23rd January 2014. The contract for construction of the Substation was awarded to M/s Hyosung Corporation, Korea in Joint Venture with M/s KEC International Ltd. India at a contract value of Nu. 2,443.266 million (USD 16.832 million for supply of GIS and Nu. 1,386.731 million for supply of other equipment and erection) on August 7, 2015, to be completed within a period of 18 months.
